Location

JAÉN is a city in south-central Spain. It is the capital of the province of Jaén. It is located in the autonomous community of Andalusia. The inhabitants of the city are known as Jiennenses.

The layout of Jaén is determined by its position in the hills of the Santa Catalina mountains, with steep, narrow streets, in the historical central city district. The city of Jaén is the administrative and industrial centre for the province.

In the last years Jaén has had a great increase in cultural tourism. Jaén is also known as the World Capital of Olive Oil, because it is the biggest producer of this liquid gold (as the locals refer to it).

COMING TO JAÉN:

If you come by plane, the nearest airports are Granada-Jaén, Madrid and Málaga (www.aena-aeropuertos.es):

  • Granada-Jaén airport is currently connected with direct flights to Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and some airports in France and Italy.
    When you arrive to the airport you have to take the airport shuttle to Granada's coach station (a taxi can be too expensive), from where you will be able to take a coach to Jaén (60 minutes approx.; the main company -Alsa- runs 16 buses a day between Granada and Jaén).
    There are no trains from Granada to Jaén.

  • Madrid airport is connected to the main cities in the world. Once at the airport, you can get to the city centre by underground (You can download a map of the "metro" at Madrid's underground's website).

      1. The airport's underground line is line no. 8 (pink). If you decide to continue your journey to Jaén by train, change at Nuevos Ministerios and take line 10 (dark blue) to Renfe Chamartín. Of course, you can take a taxi, but it willl be much more expensive and not so fast. To get the schedules of trains to Jaén and even buy your ticket online (The journey lasts 4 hours approx.).

      2. If you want to continue your journey to Jaén by coach, change at Nuevos Ministerios and take line 6 (grey) to Méndez Álvaro coach station (Estación de Autobuses Sur, the journey to Jaén lasts 4-5 hours aprox.).

      3. If you want to continue your journey by plane, you can fly from Madrid to Granada-Jaén airport.

  • Malaga airport is quite well connected to many European cities and to some American airports. You are likely to find cheap flights to and from Málaga, because of the high number of tourists that travel to the so-called Costa del Sol.
    For travelling from Málaga to Jaén, you must take one of the shuttle buses (or a taxi) connecting the airport to Málaga coach station. The coach company is called Alsa and the journey by coach from Málaga to Jaén lasts 3 hours approx.









    • ACCOMMODATION:

    IGSM 2012 participants will be accommodated in the INTURJOVEN HOSTEL & SPA JAÉN which is situated in the street Calle Borja in front of the New Theatre Infanta Leonor.



    The INTURJOVEN HOSTEL & SPA JAÉN was built on the old building of San Juan de Dios Hospital.
    The INTURJOVEN HOSTEL & SPA is distributed in 2 buildings connected by glass walkway and patio. This hostel is especially designed under the criterion of accessibility, so there are no architectural barriers and it is ideal for people with disabilities.
    SPA center, which counts with a large capacity, has a massage and relaxation area where you can perform various therapeutic treatments.



    HOW TO GET THERE?

    You can access to the hostel from the street Millán de Priego which is about 20-25 minutes walking from the train station and 15 minutes walking from the bus station.

    1. From Train station:

      As stated above, the station is about 20-25 minutes from the hostel, on the Plaza de la Concordia. The following map shows the most suitable route.

    2. Taxis from the Train station:

      At the exit of the train station there is a taxi stop. The use of taxi is a good choice if you have a lot of luggage. The price of the taxi route should be around 5-6 € plus the surcharge for luggage.

      RECOMMENDATION: When you take the taxi, tell the driver your destination: "Albergue Juvenil" or "Teatro Infanta Leonor" and you will come without problems.


    3. From the bus station:

      The bus station is located on the Plaza Coca de la Piñera, almost in the center of the city. The following map shows the route most convenient to get to the hostel.
